Meet Kamil Jones of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kamil Jones.

Kamil, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Story

I was born in Austell and raised in the country town of Douglasville, Georgia. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My dad was a DJ, so I grew up around music, equipment, records, and the energy that comes with bringing people together through sound.

I started writing lyrics and recording myself around 12 years old. By 14, I was using DAWs and actual recording hardware, teaching myself how to record, mix, and master my own music. What started as curiosity became something I took seriously, and over the years I kept learning through repetition, mistakes, experience, and countless hours behind the music.

That work eventually opened doors for me. I’ve been blessed with opportunities to create, learn, and build relationships in places like Icon Studios on Berkeley Avenue, Solo Sounds, and Cook Up ATL. Over time, I became a familiar and friendly face in different creative spaces around Atlanta.

For me, though, music has never been the only thing that connects me with people. I’ve always been somebody who can walk into a room, talk to different kinds of people, and build genuine relationships. The music is almost like the sprinkles on top—it gives people another piece of me to connect with.

My life outside of music has shaped me just as much as the studio has. I ran track in college, served two years in the military, and eventually transitioned into one of the most important roles in my life: being an active and dedicated father.

Those experiences gave me perspective. They gave me stories, discipline, responsibility, setbacks, growth, and real life to pull from when I create.

Now I’m pursuing a degree in Audio Engineering to continue sharpening my craft and elevating my place in the music industry. I’m taking something I’ve been teaching myself since I was a teenager and adding formal education to years of real-world experience.

I didn’t wake up one day and decide I wanted to do music. I grew up in it. I’ve spent more than half my life developing as an artist and engineer, and I’m still learning.

For me, this journey is bigger than making songs. It’s about mastering the craft, building genuine connections, telling my story, and creating something that lasts.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Some of my biggest battles have been internal—struggling with confidence, motivation, depression, and alcoholism at different points in my life. There were times when I knew I had the talent and ability, but I wasn’t always in the right place mentally or emotionally to give my music everything I had.

Becoming a father also changed my life. Learning how to balance being an artist with being an active parent, while adapting to co-parenting and all the responsibilities that come with raising children, forced me to grow in ways music never could.

Alcohol became one of the biggest obstacles in that journey. By the grace of God, I’m sober today. Sobriety has given me a clearer perspective on my life, my responsibilities, and what I want my future to look like.

I don’t look at those years as wasted time. They’re part of the reason I approach music and life differently now. I’ve learned that talent can open doors, but discipline, faith, consistency, and being present for the people who depend on me are what allow me to keep walking through them.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist, songwriter, and developing audio engineer who has been creating music since I was a kid. I started writing and recording around 12 years old, and by 14 I was teaching myself DAWs, recording hardware, mixing, and mastering. Because of that, I’ve always approached music from both the creative and technical side.

My sound is rooted in hip-hop and trap, but what I specialize in most is creating music that feels natural, personal, and easy for people to connect with. I care about the entire record—the writing, delivery, production, sonics, and the feeling it leaves behind.

I’ve had opportunities to work and build relationships in different creative spaces throughout the Atlanta area, including Icon Studios on Berkeley Avenue, Solo Sounds, and Cook Up ATL. Those experiences helped me grow not only as an artist, but as someone who understands how important relationships, professionalism, and atmosphere are in music.

What I’m most proud of is that I’ve continued creating through different chapters of life—college athletics, military service, fatherhood, personal struggles, and now sobriety. Every chapter has added something to my perspective and to the music I make.

What sets me apart is that I’m not dependent on one part of the process. I can write the song, record it, understand what it needs sonically, communicate with engineers and producers, and connect with people outside of the music itself. I’m now pursuing a degree in Audio Engineering so I can continue strengthening the technical side of what I’ve already spent years developing creatively.
