Meet Kristen Almirez of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Almirez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my photography journey, like anyone would starting with high school, have taken an art class and have since fallen in love with it that I transitioned from art to photography and opened my eyes to more opportunity, starting with film and slowly transitioning into digital all while learning and using Photoshop.
I best believe photography isn’t art that’s meant to be shared however, you create art I was once taught by two professors of mine who say that life is full of art that the world isn’t so dull as somewhat say.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
That is a good question. It started out smoothly at first began photographing for family and friends, and later down the road gained a bigger audience, and even during my journey, there are some struggles along the way like any creator would come across even if that’s financially but as long as you have fun with what you love, then photography is more than art. It’s not necessarily a job because you’re doing something you love and you’re happy about it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an event and portrait photographer.
I specializes in this field in particular, however, can slowly broaden my audience beyond what I do such as sports parties or any special occasion. The most exciting thing I am very proud of is of myself how I never gave up and kept going even when there are people who told me to give up or told me my dreams weren’t realistic. The main thing that sets me apart from other photographers is be determination and ambition to keep going when people tell you to stop to see the world in a whole new light to have fun and live life. That’s the key something Dolly Parton we used to say once.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The best advice is to keep sharing your work through social media or if you know a photographer through friends or family then let them become your mentor.
