Today we’d like to introduce you to Renee Burwell-Billie.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been in the health and fitness industry for more than 20 years, and throughout my journey, I have learned that two of the most important keys to building a successful brand are authenticity and passion.
For me, authenticity means staying true to who I am, why I started, and the passion that continues to fuel my purpose. Connecting with people has always come naturally because I genuinely love what I do. And when you truly love what you do, people can feel it. That energy becomes contagious. Your clients begin to believe in you, trust you, and believe in what you represent.
Health and fitness are about so much more than exercise. They are about creating experiences, building relationships, inspiring confidence, and helping people feel stronger—physically, mentally, and emotionally. When you connect with people on that level, your brand becomes more than a business. It becomes a community.
As an entrepreneur, businesswoman, and leader, I am very hands-on and engaged with both my clients and my team. I would never expect something from my team that I am unwilling to give myself. I believe in showing up, leading by example, supporting one another, and bringing our very best to the people we serve.
My expectation is simple: Love what you do. Be an awesome team player. Lead by example. Remember your WHY. And never lose the PASSION that brought you here.
A brand is not simply a logo, a website, a social media page, or a slogan. It is the energy we bring into the room. It is the experience we give our clients. It is how we make people feel. It is our commitment, our passion, and our purpose.
WE are the BRAND.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship rarely is, and more than 20 years in the health and fitness industry has taught me that longevity requires resilience, flexibility, and a willingness to reinvent yourself.
One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the constant changes in the fitness industry. Trends come and go, technology changes, people’s needs change, and the way we connect with our clients continues to evolve. As a small business owner, you have to learn how to adapt without losing the heart and identity of your brand.
There have also been the realities that many entrepreneurs face: balancing finances, finding and maintaining the right spaces to offer programs, marketing the business, building a strong team, attracting new clients while retaining loyal ones, and wearing multiple hats at the same time. When you’re passionate about what you do, it can also be difficult to separate the business from the personal because you pour so much of yourself into it.
Then there are the unexpected challenges, the ones you simply cannot plan for. There have been times when I have had to change direction, rethink how we operate, and find creative ways to keep our community connected. Those experiences taught me that sometimes success isn’t about having the perfect plan; it’s about being willing to adjust the plan without abandoning the vision.
One of my greatest lessons has been learning that growth doesn’t always look like growth while you’re going through it. Sometimes it looks like a setback. Sometimes it looks like starting over. Sometimes it means letting go of what worked yesterday so you can make room for what is needed tomorrow.
The struggles have taught me to be resilient, resourceful, grateful, and unafraid to evolve.
The obstacles and challenges have helped build the woman, the leader, and the brand that I am today. And we’re still moving.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about RC Fitnez Studio, LLC?
RC Fitnez Studio is more than a fitness business. It is a community built around movement, wellness, connection, and empowerment.
I have been in the health and fitness industry for more than 20 years, and my mission has always been to help people discover that taking care of themselves can be enjoyable, uplifting, and sustainable. At RC Fitnez, we specialize in creating fitness experiences that meet people where they are. Our offerings include dance fitness, Zumba, Zumba Toning, Pound, strength and weight training, personal training, meditation, and wellness-focused programs and events.
What sets RC Fitnez apart is the energy and sense of belonging we create. You don’t have to be the most coordinated, the strongest, the youngest, or the most experienced person in the room. You simply have to show up. We want people to walk through our doors and feel welcomed, encouraged, supported, and free to be themselves.
We believe fitness should strengthen more than the body. Movement can build confidence, relieve stress, create friendships, improve emotional well-being, and remind us just how capable we are. That’s why I have always believed in combining fitness with fun, community, motivation, and mindfulness.
One of the things I am most proud of, brand-wise, is that RC Fitnez is authentic. What you see is truly who we are. We laugh, we dance, we sweat, we encourage one another, and we celebrate each other’s victories: big and small. Our instructors aren’t simply people standing in front of a class; we are part of the community we serve.
After more than two decades in this industry, my passion for helping people has not diminished—it has grown. I am especially proud of the relationships we have built and the people who continue to show up because RC Fitnez feels like more than a workout. It feels like family.
At the heart of our brand are four things: fitness, healing, meditation, and empowerment. Whether someone joins us for Zumba, strength training, dance fitness, meditation, a special event, or simply needs a supportive community to help them get moving again, we want them to leave feeling better than when they arrived.
Ultimately, RC Fitnez isn’t about creating perfect bodies. It’s about helping people create healthier, stronger, happier lives while enjoying the journey.
Our philosophy is simple: Love what you do. Remember your WHY. Lead with passion. Serve with authenticity.
Because at RC Fitnez, WE are the BRAND
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe luck has played a role in my life and business, but I also believe that many of the things we call “luck” happen when preparation, opportunity, faith, and perseverance meet.
Over the years, I have certainly been fortunate to meet the right people, be in the right place at the right time, and have doors open that I could not have planned for. But I have also experienced closed doors, disappointments, setbacks, and moments when things simply did not go the way I envisioned. Interestingly, some of that “bad luck” ultimately redirected me toward something better.
After more than 20 years in the health and fitness industry, I have learned that you cannot build a business waiting for luck. You have to show up, even when things are difficult. You have to remain willing to learn, reinvent yourself, take chances, build relationships, and stay connected to your WHY.
I also believe that the energy you put into the world has a way of coming back to you. When you genuinely care about people, serve with integrity, and pour positive energy into your community, relationships develop that can lead to opportunities you never anticipated.
So, yes, I have been lucky. But I have also been consistent, resilient, passionate, prayerful, and willing to do the work. I have learned to appreciate the open doors, learn from the closed ones, and trust the journey in between.
Today, when I look at RC Fitnez and the community we have built, what I feel most is gratitude. I don’t take any of it for granted. Every class, every relationship, every opportunity, every setback, and every person who has supported this journey has contributed to where we are today.
Maybe that’s what luck has taught me most: Be prepared when the door opens, have faith when it closes, and never stop moving forward.
