Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra P-Edwards.
Hi Sandra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Star Artistry was born from the belief that beauty should be more than something we put on, but it should be something that makes us feel seen, confident, and empowered. Stars shining!
I founded Star Artistry in August 2019 and officially launched the brand in September of that year, initially driven by my passion for makeup, creativity, and creating beauty products that were vegan and cruelty-free. But as I continued to grow personally and professionally, so did the vision for Star Artistry.
In 2024, after completing my medical degree and becoming clinically trained, I brought an entirely new perspective to the brand. I now have the opportunity to approach beauty not only as an artist and entrepreneur, but also through the lens of science, education, skin health, ingredients, and evidence-informed practice. That combination has allowed me to look at beauty differently—connecting the creativity of artistry with the science behind what we use on our skin.
That evolution is what makes Star Artistry different. I never wanted it to be simply another makeup company. I wanted to create a brand where artistry meets education and science, while remaining intentional about the products we use and the experience we create.
Today, Star Artistry is growing beyond cosmetics into a beauty and lifestyle experience centered around artistry, education, conscious beauty, and community. Through our products, personalized artistry, educational experiences, and events, we’re creating opportunities for people to understand beauty, explore their individuality, and feel confident in their own skin.
What began as a creative vision in 2019 has evolved alongside my own journey. I started Star Artistry with a love for beauty; today, I bring that same passion together with clinical training, scientific knowledge, and education to build a brand that sees beauty from a more informed perspective.
Star Artistry is where beauty meets artistry, education, and science—because looking beautiful should never mean choosing between creativity and knowledge.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and some of the hardest parts have happened behind the scenes.
Building Star Artistry while pursuing my education and professional training has required me to balance multiple demanding priorities. There were periods when I was studying, completing clinical training, working, and simultaneously trying to grow a beauty brand. Maintaining that momentum was challenging, and there were times when Star Artistry had to take a temporary back seat—not because the vision changed, but because I was investing in myself and building the knowledge and experience that would ultimately strengthen the brand.
Like any small business, I’ve faced hiccups along the way, including supply and operational challenges, financial decisions, marketing, and learning how to navigate the many responsibilities that come with being a founder. I’ve also brought interns into the business, which taught me valuable lessons about delegation, communication, leadership, and creating meaningful opportunities for others while maintaining the standards and vision of the brand.
There have been delays, pivots, unexpected challenges, and moments when progress moved slower than I wanted. But every challenge pushed me to become more strategic, adaptable, and intentional.
I’ve learned that building a brand isn’t just about having a great idea; it’s about having the discipline to keep developing that idea through every stage of growth.
After completing my medical degree in 2024 and becoming clinically trained, I gained an additional perspective that I’m now able to bring into Star Artistry. My background in science, education, and clinical training has allowed me to further develop the brand’s approach to beauty, ingredients, skin health, and education.
The road hasn’t been perfect, but every challenge has contributed to the brand I’m building today. I know Star Artistry is stronger because of everything it has had to overcome and I know there is still much more to build.
As you know, we’re big fans of Star Artistry . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Star Artistry is a beauty, education, and community-focused brand founded in 2019 with a vision to make beauty more intentional, educational, and personal. While cosmetics are an important part of what we offer, Star Artistry has grown into something much bigger than a traditional beauty brand.
We specialize in vegan and cruelty-free cosmetics, makeup artistry, beauty education, workshops, personalized beauty experiences, and community initiatives. Through our workshops and events, we create opportunities for people to learn about makeup, ingredients, conscious beauty, skincare, and the artistry behind the products they use.
What truly sets Star Artistry apart is the perspective behind the brand. I bring together creativity and artistry with a background in science, education, and clinical training. After completing my medical degree in 2024, I gained an even deeper understanding of ingredients, skin health, and the science behind many of the products and practices used in beauty. I’m now able to incorporate that knowledge into how I educate customers and develop the brand.
But education doesn’t stop with our customers. A major part of Star Artistry’s mission is creating opportunities for the next generation. We welcome students and interns who want hands-on exposure to entrepreneurship, beauty, marketing, event planning, education, and the business side of building a brand. Mentorship and giving people an opportunity to gain real-world experience are especially important to me because I understand the value of having opportunities to learn, develop, and grow.
Community outreach is another important part of who we are. Whether through educational programming, community events, workshops, or partnerships, we want Star Artistry to be a resource—not simply a company people purchase from. Our goal is to use the platform we’ve built to educate, connect, encourage, and create opportunities for others.
I’m especially proud that Star Artistry has continued to evolve alongside me. What began in 2019 as a creative vision has grown through years of education, professional development, entrepreneurship, and experience. Today, the brand brings those different worlds together.
I want readers to understand that Star Artistry is not just about makeup. It is about creating experiences, educating communities, developing future talent, encouraging entrepreneurship, and helping people feel confident in their own expression.
Our vision is simple: to create a space where artistry meets science, beauty meets education, and business creates opportunities for community.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe luck has played a role in my journey. I know God has.
I believe in God, faith, preparation, discipline, and being willing to move when God places an opportunity in front of me. There have been unexpected opportunities, challenges, delays, and moments that could easily be described as “good luck” or “bad luck,” but I see them differently. I believe God has been intentional about my path—including the doors He opened, the doors He closed, and even the obstacles He used to prepare me for what was ahead.
Star Artistry has been a reflection of that faith. I launched the brand in 2019, and since then, my journey has taken me through entrepreneurship, higher education, clinical training, and experiences I could never have predicted when I first started. There were times when maintaining the business while pursuing my education was extremely difficult, but I continued to hold onto the vision and trust God’s timing.
My faith has taught me that purpose does not always come with perfect timing. Sometimes you have to continue building, learning, and preparing before you understand why you were given the vision in the first place.
Today, I see Star Artistry as more than a business. I see it as something God entrusted to me and something I have a responsibility to continue developing—not only for myself, but also for the people we educate, mentor, and create opportunities for.
So when people ask me whether luck got me here, my answer is simple: I don’t believe in luck. I know God did this. My responsibility has been to have the faith to keep going, the discipline to do the work, and the courage to walk through every door He opens.
