We recently had the chance to connect with Nick DA Kid and have shared our conversation below.
Nick DA Kid , so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
Whats understood about radio is…. everything lol. The average listener and MOST CERTAINLY not the artist that want to get their music played have no idea what makes this machine work. Their is a science behind radio and what we do as personalities.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Nick Da Kid from Phenix City, AL. I’ma father to a son, a music lover and producer/writer. I’m a 10 year veteran in radio broadcasting. I work for Foxie 105 WFXE in Columbus, GA. For the past 5 years or so i have been the host of the number one night show in the Tri City. I recently was promoted and joined DJ OO Kee forming a new afternoon show called the “Afternoon Takeover” from 2PM to 6PM each weekday.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My late brother John Marshal who is an Atlanta radio legend taught me a lot about continuing to push the needle further and resilience. I’ve seen him down several times and each time he picked himself up and rose to new heights each and every time. He gave mer a certain confidence that i never had but i continue to carry with me very single day.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of what others would think definitely affected me at certain parts of my life. it was a battle to get over that and even sometimes today it still is.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public me is definitely a real VERSION of me. I don’t believe in giving the public everything. so while their are parts of me that are closed off to the public what they see is without a doubt real.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
Most people will misunderstand just how much of an introvert I truly am. I have a career and skill sets that don’t really allow me to be an introvert, but at heart i’ll take being at home watching movies alone, with my son, or my girlfriend over going outside any day!
