Rachel Russell of Sandy Springs on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Rachel Russell. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Rachel, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
The best restoration I can seek out and encourage others to seek out is the live music scene. Outside of work, I love to see what shows are coming through Atlanta or even surrounding cities. So many fun and gorgeous venues at our finger tips, it’s nice to escape in the music in my free time.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rachel Russell and I am the Aesthetics Director and Lead Esthetician at SubRosa Med Spa. With nearly two decades in the aesthetics industry, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside top plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and industry leaders in skincare and technology. Staying ahead of the latest advancements is my passion. When it comes to your skin, only the best will do. What sets me apart is my ability to create truly customized treatment plans. I believe self-care is more than just a routine. When you invest in feeling your best, you exude confidence. That energy is powerful. Whether you’re looking for subtle refinement or transformative results, I’m here to educate, guide, and deliver treatments that make a real difference.
During our time together, I’ll guide you beyond reality and immerse you into a moment of pure tranquility.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
Everyone in my family has always been extremely hard working. I have had amazing examples of creating your own path through showing up and giving 100%. My first Esthetics mentor, Gabriela Voiculescu, also taught me a lot about work ethic and integrity in our field. Observing how she focused on relationship building has proven to be the most rewarding way to practice.

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Ultimately, I have changed my mindset about failing in general. Failure has happened and will continue to happen. Running from it is not an effective strategy. If an opportunity or circumstance presents itself, I’ll move forward with it 100%. If I fall flat on my face, at least I tried and can pick myself, learn from it and keep on keeping on. However, almost always, I am able to have a successful experience that may not have taken place if I didn’t give it a try.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I am very lucky to have a strong support system and lifelong relationships that know me to my core. There is safety and transparency in my relationships where honest conversations can be had. I believe my friends would say that being authentic matters to me. It can be tempting for us all to alter how others see us, especially with the influence of AI and social media. I also struggle with those same temptations, but it’s important to me to represent and encourage others to be their most authentic selves.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
The short answer is, yes! I am tap dancing all the way into work. What most might not know about me, is that up until January 2025, my future was in a sense written out for me. I was content and had my 5 year plan. However, the opportunity of SubRosa Med Spa came about in the most serendipitous way and I started to pay attention. I made the bittersweet decision to turn my 5 year plan upside down and take this opportunity by the horns and run with it. Although, the transition was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, it has also been the most rewarding. Beginning my day and heading into the most gorgeous atmosphere, working with the most beautiful souls, and practicing with top of the line modalities, has me radiating joy every day.
