Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Lange Mack.
Hi Abigail, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to Atlanta in 2013 from South Carolina. I was working full-time, but I’m also a licensed cosmetologist, and I wanted to start my braiding business on the side. That’s when I really learned the importance of social media and started taking it seriously — I used it to advertise, bring in new clients, and I began building a following that way.
Around COVID, things started shifting for me. Between COVID itself and getting married, my priorities changed a bit, and I slowed down with my hair business. But I realized the importance of still having a presence on social media, so even though I didn’t have as much hair content to post, I started sharing more of my hobbies — and juicing was one of them. I posted a few juicing reels, and it took off way more than I expected. I got so much positive feedback from followers, friends, clients, and new followers, and it encouraged me to lean into that part of my life more.
Around that time, a company that makes juicers reached out to me about a partnership, and we connected — which made me love it even more. I’ve always loved doing things with my hands, whether it’s creating hairstyles, cooking, or now juicing. It really fit into where I was at personally, trying to make healthier decisions and choices
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t necessarily call them obstacles, but there were definitely some challenges along the way. First, with COVID — there was a level of uncertainty at first, and I wasn’t sure which direction to take my braiding business, so I had to adjust some things. Then when I got married, I had to shift my priorities again.
And when my juicing content started taking off, the real challenge became figuring out my next steps — deciding whether I wanted to move forward creating content just around juicing, and what my social media presence would look like going forward. I ended up taking a social media hiatus to figure things out, and I rebranded my Instagram from Crowned Elegance to Dear Abi. Once I did that, I was able to move forward with Dear Abi, and it gave me the freedom to encompass all aspects of my life in my content — not just braiding.
I’ll also say — I’m an introvert, so showing my face on camera isn’t always easy for me. I’m still not a hundred percent comfortable with it, but it’s something I push through, stepping outside my comfort zone
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I still work full time. I’ve been with the same company for almost 20 years now — my 20th anniversary is coming up in April. I started in customer service, then moved into the quality assurance world, and currently I work in risk-based reviews.
It’s funny — when people ask me what I do, I always say “I don’t know,” because it changes so often! But mostly, we look for opportunities for improvement. We make sure processes and procedures are clearly outlined and working the way they should, and if something needs clarifying, we address it. I really enjoy it because you get to fix things, and it’s never the same — different procedures, different topics, different processes each time. It never gets boring.
How do you think about happiness?
A number of things make me happy. I’m a plant mom, and that grew into gardening — being able to grow produce on my balcony has been so rewarding. As I get older, spending time with my family is becoming more and more important to me — it makes me happy and keeps me feeling grounded. I also find a lot of happiness in creating, whether it’s through hairstyles, juicing, or cooking — I just love being able to make things with my hands. It fulfills me. Accomplishing goals brings me joy as well, and so does traveling and having new experiences — stepping outside of my routine and seeing or trying something different.
