Rising Stars: Meet Anthony Rodriguez of New Jersey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Rodriguez.

Hi Anthony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well, my story began as a young kid in church. Influenced by church music, I took interest in playing drums. Eventually jumped to piano and just continued my learning experience moving forward. With learning the piano, I started to make musical arrangements and recording them to cassette tapes.

This really benefited me into producing music whilst playing piano for bands. Music was the only thing I was fascinated by, and never took interest in pursuing anything else. Later discovering that I can do so much with the art of music; aside from playing and recording I started to teach piano.

The journey in my career was all experimenting and figuring it out as I went on. One of the coolest things I’m doing today is working on Dolby Atmos mixing. So, apart from the traditional music making, mixing mastering, I get to mix in Dolby Atmos. A format that goes beyond stereo. It’s a time where the format is still new in the music world, and I’m happy to be one of the few working in that format. It has really made my career more unique in a way.

Today I am responsible in writing music, mixing and mastering; also mixing in Dolby Atmos. My deliverables are huge!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth road? Never. A musicians life is an adventure of a lifetime! Some struggles can be having to adjust to the times, or dealing with slow seasons, this I think is the main thing us musicians struggle with. So figuring out how to keep our servicing up and running, is a daily task.

But within the struggles our passion and heart for music, gives us determination to bring out the best in ourselves to expand our abilities to push forward!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a film and television composer, producer, and mixer specializing in cinematic music and Dolby Atmos. What sets me apart is that I’m involved in the entire process. I can write the score, produce it, mix it in stereo, and build the immersive Atmos mix myself. My work has appeared across Netflix, Telemundo, BET, Discovery+, and Fox Deportes, along with independent films and my own soundtrack releases. I’m most proud that I’ve built a career where I don’t have to choose between being a composer and an engineer. For me, the way the music sounds is just as important as the music itself.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Persistence. This industry comes with a lot of rejection, unanswered emails, and moments where you question whether you’re getting anywhere. I’ve learned to keep creating anyway. Some opportunities took years to come around. I just kept improving my craft, building relationships, and showing up. I think a big part of my success has simply been refusing to quit.
