Today we’d like to introduce you to Deepti Malik.
Deepti, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story as an artist started when I was based in a Cleveland, Ohio. Although I am a professional dietician but my true passion and calling has always been arts.
I am thankful for all the opportunities that I got here that helped shape me into the artist I am today. I started out as a paper crafter. It all began with stamping and watercoloring where I created these little pieces of art, my handmade cards. This craft led me to an opportunity for my own online card making classes through Craftsy.
More opportunities then fell into place where I got to illustrate and design stamps for USA based paper crafting companies. I enjoyed every bit of it.
But there was something else inside me, a spark that kept pushing me deeper into art and finally I decided to take a dive into the world of painting. I self taught myself through books and online classes and lot of trial and errors to paint. Today almost 3 years into painting, I feel content. Content in the fact that I do what I love but not content with the fact that there is so much I want to paint. Here I am following my dream, living a life full of color 🙂
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My struggles were the struggles that every artist faces while pursuing a new art. But these obstacles helped me work harder and get better in my skills.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an oil painter. I specialize in painting wild life with focus mostly on birds. I enjoy capturing these little creatures into my paintings. My art is a unique mix of realism with soft and subtle abstraction.
My paintings have a warm earthy tone to them, I am also drawn to horses. They are such elegant animals to paint.
I am proud to be able to paint the birds that I see everyday in my backyard.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I always seek books and references from art history and great artists’. Library is my greatest inspiration. Besides, social media is full of contemporary artists that are so inspiring 🙂
