Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Jimerson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve began working as a DJ two years ago; it began as if it was just something I wanted to do to have fun. I never understand the passion and drive that came with setting the tone. I was able to DJ my first club event, and seen how being the DJ was such an important job, I began to understand what controlling the crowd is like and using my music selection skills to mix and control the vibe. From that point on, I became DJ Him. Once I understood how important music was for me in my life it started to make me a great Dj. I was able to quickly find a way to get booked throughout the city and state and grow my brand. In the midst of me growing to being a good DJ, I started to understand myself more and find the true meaning of self-love. Taking every opportunity, big or small, as a chance to build my skills and confidence. My second year as a DJ was my greatest yet. I got opportunities to do some of the biggest and most exciting events in Atlanta. Coming into my third year, I’m learning the importance of knowing your worth as well as accessibility. As a DJ, I think those are two of the hardest things to learn, mainly because we are independent businesses, and sometimes money can blind us at times and make us do some things that don’t completely make sense.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would say a smooth road would probably not have allowed me to be the person I am as a DJ. I would say one the biggest challenges I faced are networking, I truly am just an introvert and kind of shy a bit but it’s something I am growing out of and trying to be better for my future. Another challenge I faced is learning how to scratch. Scratching is a way of DJing where you use a part of the beat and mix in a song. It’s not that I can’t scratch; it was more of the learning process and learning when to do it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in being the DJ that pushes the limits by taking two random songs and making the crowd go crazy. I am a DJ. I’m the person that controls the music when you are at a party and/or event. I’m the person you call when you want to take your event from an 8 out of ten to a 15 out of ten. I also am a beginning-level studio engineer and producer.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The things that matter most to me are growing as a person. Every day, I wake up and tell myself if I grow 1% per day, I will be 365% better at the end of the year. Growing as a DJ, I try my best every week to learn a new skill and download new music to grow and improve my DJ sets, as well as going to the studio to learn new producing skills. Understanding the business of DJing is one of the most important things a DJ can do, I’ve learned that having great business and an entrepreneurial mindset will take you far in this field and can put you in rooms that just “playing music” can’t get you into.
