Today we’d like to introduce you to JD Earby.
Hi JD, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As long as I can remember, I’ve had a love for art and creativity. It wasn’t until college that I began to realize how much more I could do creatively—not just as an artist, but as a creative director and producer. Even then, I didn’t fully understand the world I was stepping into. A few years after college, I’ve continued to grow from an artist into a multimedia producer, creating events, productions, and YouTube series that bring people together and highlight creatives from all backgrounds.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. There have been plenty of frustrating moments, ideas that didn’t work, and times when I had to go back to the drawing board—or completely start over. I’ve learned that part of being creative is knowing when to keep pushing an idea and when to let it go. Not everything I’ve created has made it into the spotlight, but every experience helped me grow. Over time, people started recognizing the work I was putting in, and what once felt frustrating slowly became a dream that I could actually see becoming a reality.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work lives at the intersection of art, storytelling, and production. I specialize in creative direction, visual storytelling, set design, photography, film, and producing experiences that give other creatives a platform. I’m most proud of being able to take an idea from a simple concept and turn it into something people can actually see, feel, and experience. What sets me apart is that I’m not limited to one creative lane—I understand the artist’s perspective, but I also know how to bring the people, visuals, production, and story together to create something bigger than the original idea.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I’ve definitely taken risks, especially when it comes to betting on myself. A lot of what I’ve built started as an idea without knowing exactly how it would turn out. I’ve invested my time, money, and energy into productions and creative projects before knowing if people would show up or if they would succeed. I don’t see risk as simply making a decision and hoping for the best. To me, it’s about being willing to move forward when you don’t have every answer, learn from what happens, and adjust along the way. Some risks haven’t worked out, but they’ve all taught me something that helped me make the next decision better.
