Rising Stars: Meet Neil Wh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neil Wh.

Hi Neil, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
in 2004 I was a new landlord, I was working in Oak Ridge, TN shipping hazardous and radioactive waste when I read an article saying they were going to start quarantine property contaminated with Meth, and the properties were going to have to be decontaminated and sampled to show that the property had acceptable limits. I found out I had most of the qualifications. 40 osha hazwopper training, a degree in science, and 1 year working with hazardous waste. The only thing remained was a 1 week course with TDEC in TN. I took the course in December 0f 2004 and was determined to be a Methamphetamine hygienist. 22 years later I’ve sample 1000s of properties for meth and now fentanyl and helped decontaminate or oversaw the process of hundreds of houses, cars, storage units, motels, a church, a elementary school, and a few commercial businesses. This year I wrote a book Hidden Hazards A property owner’s guide to detecting and avoiding meth and fentanyl contamination. It’s a plea for new home owner’s and even tenants to spend approximately $100 and sample a property for meth/fentanyl before purchasing or renting the property. If you move into a contaminated property there are health concerns for the whole family and then you risk everything you own becoming contaminated with the two drugs.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a lot of learning curves. There wasn’t a lot of knowledge how to clean up the properties, what chemicals to use, how to price them. What is cleanable, and what should be thrown away speaking about meth contaminated properties, and here recently the last 5-6 years fentanyl contaminated properties started popping up and we had to somewhat start over again with the learning process.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
my business name is Property decon pros llc- decon is a word I’ve been using since 1998, short for decontaminate. I’ve found most people aren’t really familiar with that word so the business name doesn’t make much sense to some people where it made all the sense in the world when I was thinking of a business name. my website used to be a a dba for myself doing business as/before I was even sure what an llc was….. methcleanupcrew.com We specialize in sampling for meth and fentanyl contamination, decontaminating for methamphetamine and fentanyl contamination in properties, cars, hotels, prison cells, ect. We also do a little crime scene cleanup work. I’m most proud of my book, I wanted a way to warn people that this is a very serious problem. Outside of friends, family, and the occasional other person I didn’t have a platform to warn people about the dangers of meth and fentanyl contamination. What sets me apart from other companies is I’m a small business with very little over head so my prices are much cheaper than large companies. I also have 22 years of actual experience in this business. There is a lot of bad information out there on how to decontaminate these properties, and I’ve personally worked through it and figured out what works and what does not work in this business.
Other information… ask me about conversion labs, why they are such a problem. I live in the Atlanta area but routinely work the south eastern states, fl, al, ga, nc, sc, tn, va,

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My dad was in the airforce. We had been living in England, and my dad got assigned to work in California. We flew into Ny, picked up a new dodge van and traveled by van from Ny to California taking two weeks to see a lot of the different states, national parks, food and culture.
