Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Cox.
Hi Trinity, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started out by gaining very modest but passionate middle school dance experience. I attended an Arts middle school that lead me to a studio local in my hometown and during that time I trained and performed under legendary Philadanco! Doll, Luctricia Welters. I was an apprentice dancer with her studio company, Jubilee Dance Theatre. The expertise and guidance Ms. Welters gave each of us carried me into collegiate dance. That was an extremely exciting time! Then, there was my undergraduate studies, where I became a very busy working on my greatest passion. I am a founding dance major (one of a few) of Alabama State University. I graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in dance, and the rest is literal history (also history in the making)! I got to where I am today by way of faith in God, some really great people, whom I love, and old fashion, old school dance training.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most of the challenges were within. Convincing myself I actually had what it took to not only train on multiple levels but to have a career in dance and make an impact, that was the toughest part. There were many times I had to actually believe that I could do it and have the confidence to continue training and performing no matter what. I also had to overcome many things including the loneliness that came with much of my experiences both in college in the profession through the years. I received stellar training in this regard because now, I see things much differently.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, I am a professional ballet dancer, dance teacher and dance writer. I’d love to say that I specialize in them all, totally accepting the risk of sounding full of myself. I don’t mean to, I’ve just been pining away in these areas for years. I have a dance blog called Ballet Trinity over on Substack and I am also the founder of premier global dance career coaching platform, The Dance career Coach. I founded it in August of 2023. In that space I coach collegiate and early-career dancers on how to become visible, valuable, and longevity-minded for their professional dance careers. My coaching methods and perspectives rests on a curriculum surrounding 5 core concepts that moves dancers into a pro mindset and artist presentation beyond dance steps. What am I most proud of? There’s quite a bit, but when UARTS announced they’d no longer be operating as a university, I reached out to some of my contacts within the leadership collegiate dance space and assisted UARTS dance majors in relocating to universities of their choice. There are two dancers in particular that were able to continue their dance studies and have recently graduated. That’s really special to me!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Risk taking, from my personal perspective, has everything to do with faith. It takes faith to make decisions that can come with both immediate and longterm effects. It’s really easy to compare yourself with many others, in this social media age but once the risks are taken, one must lean on their faith in order to attain the totality of said risks. Resigning from my last ballet company while knowing how much I absolutely love ballet, that was a major risk. I came to feel that once the dust settled. It took faith for me to not quit on my career after taking that risk. It really did!
