Hi Smokey, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Circumventing major power issues at a venue to keep the show going! We recently arrived onsite and everything we plugged into the generator tripped it. Hundreds of yards of drop cables later and a nearby barn helped keep the party alive.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Smokey Jones, I’ve been a touring musician the past 25 years, the last 8 of which have been with my band Smokey Jones and The 3 Dollar Pistols.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My father taught me the most about work ethic and how it’s all relative. He could work forever and never seem tired.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There’s been several times, I prefer not to dwell on haha. The road is full of trials and tribulations, it’s a tough way to make a living.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I think at the end of the day, we call ourselves a country band, the music has to be reminiscent of traditional country music and pay respect to those who founded the genre.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Have you ever gotten what you wanted, and found it did not satisfy you?
It’s funny cause this happens a lot in the music business. Be careful what you wish for as they say, you just might get it. Sometimes you work so hard to get a certain show , only to realize it’s not what it’s cracked up to be. Rare, but it has happened, particularly with larger promotors ironically.
