Ebony Ferrell shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Ebony , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
That’s a very good question. I’m chasing a dream that I’ve always had and that’s to be a successful stylist and business owner. I’ve always imagined bigger in life and I’ve never wanted to settle for less. I want to be more than just a stylist behind the chair, I want to travel to do different events with hair, own different businesses and expand my business even further than I ever could imagine. I strive everyday to make myself a better person and a even better business owner. Hair is my passion and I even started my own hair care product line that’s now in Hair Depot in Athens, GA. I’m always trying to figure out what I can do next in order to make my business better and I try different things even if I may get discouraged but I never give up. I see the progress from where I first began until now and I’m so amazed and blessed to have done everything that I have done so far. I’ve been in different magazines, won awards, been on the radio, done interviews, started a hair care line and I also attended New York Fashion Week as a hairstylist. I know because of my consistency more opportunities will be coming my way. Stopping is not a option when you have a vision and goals for your life. I never even thought about stopping something that I’ve worked so hard for because then I would be failing myself. Failure is not an option for me so I will never stop. I only want success and prosperity in my life and that’s what will continue to happen!!

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was younger life it wasn’t always easy. I saw a lot growing up and I thought that in life it was okay to be comfortable and that we are supposed to accept things as they are but that’s not true. I learned that I can accomplish any goal that I have set for myself. Life is a learning experience and it’s up to you to make a choice in what you learn from it. Of course we all have been let down or been through struggles but it’s up to you to decide if you are going to use the situation to make you a better person or just be comfortable with your situation. It’s about maturity and growth. You must think about where you came from and what you’ve been through to motivate you. I know that what I’ve been through when I was younger until now has made me into the person who I am today because I have grown so much in life. Elevation requires separation and when you learn that you become better.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
When you go through hard times it makes you a stronger person. If I never would’ve went through everything that I have gone through in life, I wouldn’t be the person that I am today. The hard times motivate me to keep going and pushing because I know that bigger things are coming. It’s just getting me prepared for everything that’s about to happen. Hard times can either make you or break you but you have to make the choice to either keep going or give up. Giving up is not a option for me, so I look at the hard times as a learning experience and work even harder. It’s me versus me everyday!!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
I think that my closest friends would say what really matters to me is that as long as you dont give up on your goals and keep striving that you can accomplish anything that you put your mind to. When you work hard you’ll see the results even when you get discouraged just keep going.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What will you regret not doing?
I will never regret stepping out on faith to open up my salon. Even though I didn’t have a lot of clientele at first I still took chance and believed in myself. If I wouldn’t of made the decision to open up my own salon I wouldn’t have been where I am today. You have to believe in yourself and take the necessary steps to accomplish your goals. Opening Heavenly Designs By Ebony Hair Salon was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I’m proud of myself for accomplishing my goal.
