Story & Lesson Highlights with Emmanuel Malette of Decatur

Emmanuel Malette shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Emmanuel, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first thing that I do is read my Bible. After I’ve done that, I do something called the “morning pages,” which is simply a stream of consciousness brain dump from pen to paper.

I use this as my prayer time. Writing out my prayers has been a gift to me in ways that I never expected.

I’ve been doing the morning pages every morning for the last 4 years.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Emmanuel Malette! I am a dancer and actor in Atlanta, GA. I love Jesus, my family, food, and anime!

My goal is spread the love of Christ and to win multiple Emmys and Oscars in the process!

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Mannnnnnn, I could write a BOOK on this!!!

In the midst of one of the darkest seasons of my life, I saw the One who sees me — Jesus.

In the middle of my depression, I was seen.
In the middle of my addictions, I was seen.
In the middle of my insecurities, I was seen.

See, when a lot of people think about God, they picture this mean old guy sitting on a cloud just waiting for them to mess up.

But God isn’t like that.

God empathizes with us. God loves us. God sees us.

When I truly felt that — everything changed.

When I realized I was deeply seen, deeply known, and deeply loved, even when I couldn’t do that for myself, my life changed forever.

God is the One who saw me before I ever saw myself.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes! Man… there were so many times I almost gave up.

Being an actor and a dancer in this industry? It’s tough.
And that’s not even talking about the personal stuff I’ve had to walk through.

I’ve been betrayed by people I loved.
I’ve faced the lowest points of financial struggle.
And there were moments I had to look in the mirror and ask myself, “Is this even worth it?”

But listen — I’m still here.
I’m still going.
And I’m not giving up on my dreams!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My mommmm!!! She is the most amazing human being.

I’ve learned so much from her. She’s taught me the importance of empathy, sacrifice, discipline, hard work, and dedication.

She’s been my number one supporter — my rock.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without her

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
A heart that truly wants the best for people.
A deep desire for everyone to know Jesus.
And a genuine love for everyone in my life
