We’re looking forward to introducing you to James Kirklin III MPA. Check out our conversation below.
Hi James, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I felt true joy during the entire week of my wedding in July 2025. From the “welcome party”/sunset boat ride to the day-of celebration, our wedding week was nothing short of blissful. First, we eloped with 13 of our best friends and closest family in Los Cabos, Mexico and then came back to Atlanta and had a reception at Summit at 8 West, in West Midtown Atlanta, with everyone we felt has played an integral role in our journey over these past eight years.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello,
My name is James Kirklin III, owner/organizer of Trading Homes, LLC.
Trading Homes, LLC is centered around Day Trading within the U.S. regulated Futures Market, in addition to conducting Real Estate sales in both the buzzing Metro-Atlanta and Metro-Birmingham areas. I have been day trading for six years now and selling real estate in both Georgia and Alabama for nearly four years. What makes my story unique is that I successfully trade in the futures market, a niche in which statistically, over 95% of people are proven to fail, while also ranking in the Top 10% of real estate agents in the Metro-Atlanta area. I have been featured on YouTube platforms with upwards of 500,000 subscribers to explain my journey and how I reached where I am at today. Not to mention, as of April 2025, I also began teaching my methodology of what has made me successful trading within the live markets and through aggressive marketing, we have already garnered students from a few different states and multiple different countries, ranging from the United Kingdom to Poland to Beau Bassin-Rose Hill in Mauritius (SE of Africa)! With this expansion into education, Trading Homes, LLC is now uniquely positioned to share its proven strategies, empowering the next generation of aspiring traders and realtors to achieve success in either the financial or real estate markets.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was someone who genuinely just had blind faith. People on my social media accounts will often see me reposting content from five, ten and maybe even 15 years ago when I was no older than thirteen years old. I truly believe and I often say that “documenting is important.” I was the pre-teen posting the motivational quotes when I did not quite know why it hit home so hard for me. I knew I had the entrepreneurial bug because I was also the kid selling candy out of my bookbag in the sixth grade. Ultimately, I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel, but I just needed guidance in ordering my steps. The hardships in my upbringing are what made me the man I am today. Now, as a professional, I’m able to use those same principles to guide others on their own entrepreneurial or homeownership journeys.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I used to struggle heavily with both the fear of rejection and imposter syndrome. Transparently, these pessimistic thoughts still manage to creep in at times. For example, when I began my real estate agent journey, I was the agent that was hesitant to reach out to my friends and family to explain that I would be more than glad to help them or their network in the purchase or sale of anything real estate. Then, I would have the nerve to be upset when they did not utilize my services! The old saying, “closed mouths don’t get fed” is certainly true in the world of sales. Regarding day trading, I could hardly believe the success I was seeing in the space that is often viewed in such a negative light. That said, I had to simply own the fact that I found and developed a skill in which most people fail, and that was perfectly fine. Every success I have earned is a testament to the thousands of hours I spent preparing and the many defeats I overcame.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that I value loyalty and honesty over most anything else. I actually recently made a post that I shared across all my social media platforms.
It read:
“Before getting married, our counselor asked me specifically “What do you want to be most remembered for? What do you want your family’s legacy to be?”
Well, the first thing that came to mind was I want to be acknowledged and recognized as an honorable person, husband, father and professional.
You know… one of those men that no one can even begin to formulate a negative thought about.
For some reason, that conversation has been replaying in my head a lot lately.”
That being said, I truly am striving every day to live up to the goals and aspirations I have set for myself. I yearn to be seen as honorable in all that I do. People often forget what you say and what you do, but they tend to remember how you made them feel. Many happenings in this world are out of our control, but if I have any say so, I want to leave a positive, lasting impression on everyone I come in contact with.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that to achieve true success, I must avoid the herd mentality at all costs. The herd mentality is a tendency for people to act and think in a similar way to those that are nearest to them, and our brains use this as a shortcut to avoid making analytical, independent decisions. This has never worked for me because I am an extremely critical thinker. Due to my own self-awareness, I have always been one to go against the status quo, even if it was unintentional. When most people are leaning towards one direction, that is a major indicator to me that I am better off playing the odds of the opposition. I believe that breaking away from societal norms is a way to define your own path and make choices that are completely authentic to you.
