Kelly V shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Kelly , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me looks like clocking in from 8 am to 4 pm. Reading a book and working on my craft during my hour lunch. Gym after work, most importantly prayer then shower & rest.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kelly. I am an aspiring influencer that dresses authentically as herself. No rules, no playbook, no stylist just me. My goal is to influence others to live authentically and dress the way that they want. No labels, no boxes. Just be free. I think social media isolates a lot of people mentally to the point that they feel caged in or suffer from imposter syndrome. My goal is to influence others to break out of that, life already hard. Do what makes you happy, nothing else matters.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My father for sure, I believe he knew I was capable of reaching higher limits as the youngest. I was only thirteen at the time when we had that heart to heart conversation, but I never understood why he said what he said at that time. But now that I’m older I can understand why he told me the sky was the limit. He was the first person who knew I liked women, first person I didn’t feel judged by.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being perceived by others. It held me back for years for sure, until I realized none of that matters. People opinions of you are normally projections of what they feel internally. I think once you learn that, you take things less personal. People project the misery that they feel, the jealousy that they feel deep down. I’m not a person who really pay attention to perceptions. I cannot correct how I’m perceived, however people view me is on them. I won’t bother to try to fix it neither.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I make sure I’m real in every way, whether if it’s as a sister or as a friend. I’m very straight forward, I dont shy away from confrontation. Most importantly I live unapologetically, I can’t tie my life to people opinions on what I do.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
I understand that the most important perception in this world is from ourselves. I think that’s what matters, it ties in with self love. I think it’s important to feed our souls the necessary things it needs to grow. Whether that’s words of affirmations, encouragement. I think it’s important to be kind to ourselves and make the correct choices to maintain our peace. Love ourselves enough to eat the right diet and to continue to educate ourselves on what we don’t know. Love our flaws. Embrace all the things we dislike about ourselves.
