Meeko Clavell shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Meeko , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day usually starts with gratitude to the universe for waking me up and meditation in silence just to get my vibrations high and right and ready for the day to come and what the day has to brings. Sometimes setting intentions of positivity and positive affirmations can allow positive things to happen to you towards your day.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Meeko Clavell I am originally from College park Ga. Which is considered the metro Atlanta area south of the city. I am a Rnb/Rap/Pop artist based here in the A. And I am currently working on finishing my first E.P and really trying to build my social media presence. Just finished my best song to date Intensity, out now and Im very proud of that.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think now more than ever being a people pleaser and having people that no longer serves you is a cancer to your energy and your life path. Now at 23 I’m learning that people are in your life for a short reason and a short season. And not everyone can go the heights you can go. If your frequency is on a higher tune than who you are surrounded your self with then naturally they will start to fall back . Because due to your higher consciousness and higher level of thinking they can’t relate to you anymore. I wanna be a mogul and I will be I cannot surround myself with people whose mind is only worried about fleshly desires. And because of my goals. Those people that don’t have a like mind needs to be released.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I started writing music. I grew up poor and not in the best environments never understood nor heard. Bullied for my weight bullied for my queerness. When I started singing and writing music about real life I felt unstoppable. I felt like a cape was on my back and my talent would prove all of them wrong. Who said I would never make it. All the teachers, family, old friends, bullies I knew that music would be my ticket out and it’s something that still till this day I’m willing to bet on.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That metrics and views run everything. I’m tired of that bring back real talent in the music industry not just push up and sign artist who have a tiktok hit. Real artist grind to the top out there blood sweat and tears in there craft. No algorithm should determine who’s up next or who gets the push. Let the fans choose let what gravitates naturally be the defining decision. Now a days it’s about who has the best ads that can convert clicks into streams. Or who has the most money to press the promo button the most and that makes an artist get out on the head of the pack. Bring real talent back real engagement when you use to go out there perform and build a fan base in person and hope and A&R is there. Now it’s hard to get sign without 100k or more followers. Back then it wasn’t about that it use to be sign base off of marketability yes and belief not an imaginary number on a social media platform.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I was a legend that I was a person who stood up for civil rights Queer rights. Herbal & Spiritual Health. That my music healed and not destroyed the minority communities that are so affected daily. That I was a beacon of hope for young black queer people across the globe. And inspiration to all but most importantly the LGBTQ+ community. That I made uniqueness and difference and alternative perspectives values and ideologies major in culture. That I shifted the pov of the culture to stop caring about material things and helped us look within. That I aided into the era of higher consciousness. That I showed the world how to love&Give back
