We recently had the chance to connect with Tameka Mitchell and have shared our conversation below.
Tameka, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: When was the last time you felt true joy?
The last time I felt true joy came in the simplest of moments, on a Friday morning, right after school drop-off. I decided to slow down and treat myself to a coffee, something small but meaningful, a way of acknowledging the week’s effort and giving myself a pause before diving into the day.
When I reached the counter, the barista looked at me and said, “You have such a beautiful smile and such uplifting energy.” It stopped me in my tracks. In the past, I might have quickly deflected, rushing to throw the compliment back as if I weren’t worthy of receiving it fully. But this time, I didn’t.
Instead, I took a deep breath, smiled, and simply said “thank you.” I let the words land. I let them settle into the work I’ve been doing, being intentional about cultivating an electrifying love for myself, inside and out. That moment was more than a compliment; it was evidence of growth, proof that my inner joy is shining outward.
As I drove to the office, coffee in hand, I sat with the fullness of it all. True joy, I realized, isn’t found in grand gestures but in the small affirmations that reflect the love we’ve been sowing within ourselves all along.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
As Chief Mom Motivator®️, my mission and vision are to be a beacon of empowerment and inspiration. Juggling multiple roles effortlessly my unwavering dedication to positively impacting the lives of mothers and children shines through.
I’m a devoted wife and mother of two beautiful children, my own personal experiences have fueled my passion for maternal health and the postpartum period, especially as it relates to Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs).
I’m an intentional advocate and speaker, with a primary focus to engage, educate, and provoke conversations within the community about PMAD.
My publishing company Maternity Motivation®️ Publishing is another vessel in which I provide community conversation starters and resources.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Perfection before starting something new, taught me discipline, but now I choose progress over delay.
The desire to always be understood, it pushed me to communicate deeply, but now I embrace peace even when I’m not.
External validation- it reminded me of my worth in early seasons, but now I know my value comes from within.
These parts served me well, but I no longer need them to carry me forward.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that not everyone is meant to journey with me. The sooner I release the people, places, and things not aligned with my purpose and get locked in with GOD, the lighter my steps become. Success reminds me of the reward, but suffering reminded me of the root to stay obedient, intentional, and focused.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That we do not have a societal maternal health crisis. The truth is, we do. Families are struggling, outcomes are uneven, and mothers are being asked to carry more with less support.
Doula support is not a “nice-to-have.” It is a critical, evidence-based support partner for all families, bridging gaps in care, amplifying mothers’ voices, and ensuring that birthing people are seen, heard, and protected during one of the most vulnerable seasons of life.
Until we face the truth and invest in maternal health with urgency and humanity, we will continue to lose too much.
Every mother deserves safety. Every family deserves support. Every child deserves a thriving start.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
Not showing my children what truly brings me joy. Joy isn’t just about smiles—it’s about living authentically, embracing purpose, and creating with love.
The legacy I’m building isn’t just mine, it’s a stepping stone for them. A reminder that their big ideas are worth trusting, that they can serve a mission bigger than themselves, and that love, every version of it begins with loving every version of themselves.
Because the greatest gift I can give them isn’t perfection, it’s the freedom to dream, to serve, and to love boldly.
