Travis Lamarr of Homewood, IL on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Travis Lamarr and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Travis , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consists of waking up, thanking God for another day, doing my regular social media scroll and take care of my morning hygiene routine.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Travis Lamarr. I’m a licensed cosmetologist teacher with over 15 years of experience in education. I’m salon owner who specializes in all hair weaving techniques and celebrity hair coiffeur. I’m a husband and a father. I just recently launched my own hair extension line, TLamarr Luxury Hair extensions that focuses on hair bundles.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
That’s a great question! I was a shy kid who had big dreams and aspirations to become a celebrity hairstylist, traveling the world doing what I was called to do. There were many times where I wasn’t for sure of myself, my skills and even my worth. I sometime questioned, was this little boy from Markham, IL worthy of that life?

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell young Travis; you’re more than enough! No matter what others may think of you, no matter what others may think you should be doing, you’re great just the way you are! Don’t allow anyone to take your gentle soul and soft emotions and use it against you in a negative way. It’ll help mold you into a great man that everyone will love.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Oh most definitely! What you see is what you get! I’ve vowed to myself to always remain humble and my true, authentic self. I take pride in living my truth!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m definitely doing what I was born to do. Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve had a comb or brush in my hand. From playing with my little sister’s dolls to receiving my own doll, hair was always my love. I knew very early on in life that hair would be my forever love. I couldn’t image life without it.
