Meet Shanteria Echols of Therealshann Cosmetics in Jonesboro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanteria Echols.

Shanteria, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been a girl who is about her business and wants everything to be up to par. My standards and morals of life have always been to strive and be the best me I can be, mentally and physically. I learned those things from my mom. I am very big on respect and understanding of other people’s values. Since I was in 6th grade, my stepfather started a business-owning three convenience stores. I thought that was really big and was great for him and our family. He realized that he didn’t want to pursue that business anymore, which gave me the motivation to start my own business doing something I actually love. I was at the age to start thinking about what I want to do with my life and starting a business was on my mind since 6th grade. I never stopped thinking about it. As a child, my mom expressed to me that I always seemed to need a purse and it would be full of lipgloss. I have always been a girly girl. I thought that was really cute and it fit my personality well.

As I grew older, reaching high school, I started to tap into makeup more and trying different things out. My mom guided me and showed me how to do my eyebrows. She made sure I wasn’t overdoing it because she believed I should stay a child and look my age. Therefore, I tried different makeup effects on moderation. Once I got a little bit older around the age of 17, I started actually trying to do more than my eyebrows. I started trying to do my whole face. As I practiced and got to the point where I seen people asking me how I do my makeup and the feedback I was getting, I got the motivation to actually tap all the way into doing makeup. From time to time, family members and friends allow me to do their faces. Now that I’m a young adult at the age of 20, I have learned that I shouldn’t wait to do what I want and love, I should make a plan and just go for it.

Today, I am finally running a business called Therealshann Cosmetics LLC, selling makeup products, which is always what I wanted to do. I am so excited and eager to find out what’s going to happen in the future for myself, my business and my family, who are my biggest supporters. I am thankful and blessed to have come this far and I will not stop until I have reached my goal and assist others along my journey. God has blessed me and thanks him for allowing me to be able to conquer my dreams and put me in the position to win and give me the loving mother I have. There is so much love around me that keeps me motivated.

Has it been a smooth road?
This journey has not been smooth but it hasn’t been that bad either. Everything I have accomplished, I worked for it and figured it out on my own. I battled figuring out what to do, how to do it, where to get products from and having the funds to do. I did my research. I sat down and thought about what I need to do to make my business happen the way I want it to. It takes time, motivation, funds, and a willing mindset to learn, figure things out, and know that if you want something and you really are determined to handle your business and make it happen.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Therealshann Cosmetics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is based off cosmetics. I currently sell lipgloss, eyeshadow palettes and eyebrow pomade. I just started and it’s only the beginning of what I have in store for the future. Eventually, once my business selling makes up products get to where I want it to be, I will start doing makeup on others. That is my goal to make others feel confident and beautiful. I am known for being silly, original, high maintenance, and straightforward. I am most proud of my ambition and drive to achieve my goals and starting my business the way I wanted to. What set me apart from others is I don’t do things for the hype, I don’t fall into the trap of being influenced by others in a way that isn’t going to better my life and I stand for what I believe in.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about my city is that it can be tasteful, which means everybody is not the same and some people may look a certain way but their inner self gives a different perspective. What I least like about my city is that there are a lot of followers it seems as though no one wants to be themselves and everybody wants to be like somebody else.
