Meet Pierre Dubois

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pierre Dubois.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In 2017, I followed my wife in Atlanta after she was offered a great job opportunity. Along we embarked our two boys (now 10 and 14) on a new country, a new culture and a new life venture. Previously we had lived almost 20 years in Paris where I had founded two successful startups: – In 2000: – sold in 2003, – in 2009: ecolodis-solaire.com – continues its expansion in France and Africa. I still am the main shareholder of the company. After some time in the US, I noted there is almost no mobile hairstylists available, unlike Europe where they represent a significant part of the hair services industry. However the needs are huge among the senior or disabled populations. That is exactly why I started DashStylists.com: connect local hairstylists and barbers to customers who need or prefer hair services at home (parents of toddlers, senior citizens, disabled persons…) It is a convenient and safe option for customers and it helps hairstylists to make more money on their own conditions. When we arrived, I quickly embraced the energy of Atlanta tech world and adopted the whole city. I rapidly got involved in the community as a mentor for startups with different organizations. That is why I am proud to claim that DashStylists is a “100% made in ATLANTA” company.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am 44 and I had done well before and I had already started two companies before DashStylists, so I see myself as a privileged entrepreneur this time. But this doesn’t mean there had been no obstacles… First is the context: new culture, new legal environment, new business environment, new language. Those are not minor obstacles to overcome 😉 Basically, when you are not familiar with all that, everything takes more time. Then there was the COVID19 pandemic. We were suppose launch the business in February 2020, but all services where shut down in Georgia for several months. We had to rethink all the process to include a high level of protection for the stylists and the customers. Order personal protection equipment for the stylists because it was difficult for the stylists to find suppliers. Finally when we were ready and authorized to get back to work, the 20 stylists who had signed up on the platform were not available any more. Then we had to rebuild a whole roster of stylists. We made it and we could finally start proposing these service in July 2020.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
DashStylists offers at-home haircuts for everyone. Book a mobile hairdresser who will come to you, wherever you are, whenever you you need it. All mobile hairstylists and barbers working with DashStylists are local, licensed and experienced. It’s a convenient, safe and affordable solution for the customers. And it helps hairstylists to make more money on their own terms. They get to decide they services the want to offer, their prices and their own schedule. To adapt to COVID19 challenges, DashStylists proposes unprecedented safety measures: a FULL protective gear (from head to toes), the Barbicide COVID19 Sanitation Certification, and a set of 20 safety rules applied by the stylists.

What matters most to you?
My family. I am not sure why, it is just obvious to me. By family, I mean my wife and our kids, but also our parents and brothers. I simply enjoy spending time with them and my perspective is members of a family should be there for each other whatever happens and with no conditions.
