Last year, I wasn’t looking to open another restaurant. After years in the industry, I knew how much heart and energy it took, and I was content focusing on Kitty Dare. But then a close friend—who’s now my landlord—offered to show me a space in Cascade Heights. The moment I walked in, I felt something. It reminded me of the early days of Kitty Dare—the chance to create a space that was more than just a restaurant, but a gathering place filled with meaning and connection. That feeling stayed with me, and in August 2024, Natalie Bianca was born, honoring the community and bringing people together over food. Read more>>

I would consider my journey to be one of faith, resilience, and purpose. There are many challenges and barriers that I faced in my early life but instead of letting my past define me, I allowed it to refine me. I became the first in my immediate family to graduate from college, earning a bachelors degree in Psychology, followed by an MBA. Now, I’m pursuing my doctorate in Theology & Ministry because I know that my calling is bigger than me. Read more>>

Honestly, I always wanted to do what I am currently doing. As a young child, I remember saying that I wanted a building where people could come and get better. Growing older and cultivating what “get better” meant led me to the discipline of psychology. Still not exactly sure what I wanted to do other than help people feel better tomorrow than they did yesterday; I still imagined having the building but wondered what else would take place in it beyond me providing psychological services. I majored in psychology at Spelman College, and while there, I took a class called Clinical Psychology that was taught by Dr. Adrienne Bradford at Clark Atlanta University.  Read more>>

My sister, Shannon Jones (the peanut butter to my jelly), and I had a lightbulb moment when our beloved aunt, who has dementia, needed transportation to her appointments. Let me tell you—it was like trying to catch a unicorn. We realized how *shockingly* few non-emergency transportation companies existed, especially ones that cared. So we rolled up our sleeves and went to our favorite college… YouTube University. I’m a loyal, binge-watching alumna. Class of “How To Start a Business 101.” Read more>>

No I think with everything it takes struggle and I think the true test is if you want it. I revisited my Why every time, Investing m own hard own paycheck into everything. Self funded and self published by all the glory of GOD and still raising money to thrive . But GOD has prepared my steps so he has sent mentors, grants, scholarships, motivators to help me keep going. And realized I’m being obedient to what God called me to be, a poet, an author, a founder but more so his child, a mother, a daughter, granddaughter, cousin,. sibling and friend. With that my struggle is balancing it all on minimum funding, but God makes it work. Read more>>

The need for Entrupy came to me after something I personally experienced earlier in my life. When I was in my teens and owned a motorcycle, I was sold counterfeit motorcycle batteries by an authorized dealership. I didn’t know they were fake until it broke down and I went to a repair shop for them to tell me I had spent money on fakes. The personal and mental toll that it took on me is what led me to create Entrupy. Read more>>

Zeno’s Backyard Bark Park began with the idea of me as a single mother wanting to provide a clean, low-maintenance, safe space for my son and dog to play. Initially, our large, unfenced backyard consisted of rotten trees, overgrown bushes, and grass that needed cutting every week. Many people would use our yard to allow their dogs to relieve themselves while walking along the Westside Spur Trail of the Atlanta Beltline. I wondered if there was a way to make that option more official, rather than feeling violated by trespassers. Read more>>

My journey has been rough, with many defining moments. The path has been made clearer through developing systems that support me in scaling my success in varying areas. Additionally, learning not to undervalue my services to corporations that I consult with was a key lesson. I developed a solutions – based pitch to corporations and only then was I able to overcome strain. Strain is when the price you demand doesn’t match the workload, causing you to be essentially overworked and underpaid. Read more>>

When I’m not strutting down the runway, you’ll find me diving into fitness—staying strong, healthy, and motivated is a huge part of who I am. I’m also passionate about community work and charity, using my time to give back and support causes that matter. Whether it’s volunteering or contributing to local initiatives. I’m also on a mission with my own nonprofit, “Peace of Earth Foundation Inc.” embarking on a journey dedicated to making a real difference in the world. It’s all about giving back, creating change, and elevating the planet”. The heart of my work is rooted in inspiring others to join the movement and create a ripple effect of positivity and growth. Around the same time, I became really interested in the coffee community, and I was very surprised by the number of Black-owned coffee brands that were in that space. That’s when I started my “Coffee at Home / Sunday Reset” series. On the surface, it may look like regular coffee content, or a typical Sunday reset routine. But for me, it’s bigger than that and always will be. I was very specific and intentional about what I wore in the videos, the coffee I used, ensuring that I am highlighting Black-owned brands, small, and local businesses through visual storytelling. Businesses began reaching out for collaborations. That began opening doors for me. Simply me being me. Read more>>

I initially deferred my acceptance into the graduate program at Savannah College of Art and Design a full year. I know this may sound counter-productive, but I did this in order to gain more work experience. While working at Everyday Health, Inc., I was fortunate enough to work as a production assistant with Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who came on as one of our correspondents. He was supportive of my decision to pursue animation at SCAD. Given that he is based in Atlanta, I even got to continue working as a freelance P.A., whenever the Everyday Health video production team would travel to work with him. Read more>>

My story starts off all too familiar with growing up singing in the church teenage choir and taking Jazz and Tap as a young child. Those dance recitals led to performing at half time at my Mom and Step Dads Super Bowl parties that they would throw at our house. That led to auditioning for a modeling school that trained me to audition for talent agencies in Los Angeles. Once I booked an agent I landed my first speaking role in a feature film titled The Wood within 6 months.  Read more>>

It gave me a lifelong drive to help people, especially women, find their voice and step into their power. I was always drawn to storytelling, but I didn’t know that would become the thread running through my entire career. As a Latina, I’ve often felt the importance of representation and the responsibility that comes with it. That perspective has shaped the stories I tell and how I tell them. Read more>>

Early on, I tried being the sweat-it-out-on-the-dancefloor-type pop star I thought people wanted, but that’s not who I am most of the time. Now, I’d call my style cozy: I want my songs to be honest, romantic, and introspective—the kind you turn to when you need someone to say the shit you’re afraid to say. Right now, I’m recording new tracks inspired by some major life changes over the last few years, and I’m looking to open on tour for a big artist soon. I’m grateful every single day that I get to do this, and I’ve got more singles and an EP on the way—so stay tuned! Read more>>

My questions led to creating a Race Equity working group at my job, and fueled my interest in present day worker rights activism (aka “DEI.”) I learned from consultants and practitioners around me, read books, asked questions, and began to pay more attention to the experiences of Black and Brown folks at work. Eventually I was asked to join a consultancy as a contractor. I was tasked with going into workplaces and teaching on the history and presence of racism in the United States and it’s impact on workers of color. We taught on ideology like white supremacy and white dominant culture, the creation of whiteness in American jurisprudence, power and oppression, and equity versus equality, and more. Read more>>

I mean A LOT of Failures but I keep going. I’ve always had this relentless spirit, this underdog story personality. I had speech issues growing up, I didn’t start talking until I was 7 years old, and I worked hard as hell to start speaking (I had to go to speech therapy for almost a year). Growing up my mom struggled with a sickness called “Cyclic Vomitting Syndrome” and thru that she got addicted to Opiates. She was in and out of the hospital a lot when I was 14-18, and I had to raise myself during those years. My life has always been a struggle and I feel like it will continue to be a struggle (hopeful not as traumatic as the way I grew up lol) but I know I will always conquer whatever is in my way. Read more>>

Needless to say I was moved in such a way that I choose to embark on this journey that aligns professionally and personally. As a child I was fascinated with helping! Throughout most of my professional career, I had the pleasure of selling media. Print, digital, events, broadcast. I have worked with companies around the world. Nonetheless it gave me the opportunity to work with and collaborate with smart and sophisticated marketers. Read more>>

Post-pandemic, I was struggling to get my life back on track after a whirlwind pregnancy. Several misdiagnoses and the reality of Black maternal health disparities left me on life support. As I made my way through recovery, I faced numerous setbacks. Still, being assertive, I was convinced I could overcome them—which led to my first decision: to start practicing yoga for both physical health and mental wellness. But I didn’t just want to learn how to practice; I also wanted to teach it to other women like myself—those who have been through, or are currently going through, the same thing. Read more>>

It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve battled imposter syndrome, depression, and anxiety, all while navigating life with endometriosis—a chronic illness that doesn’t get talked about enough, especially in high-pressure industries like music. On top of that, being a Black woman in this industry has meant constantly being overlooked, having my ideas stolen, or having to work 20 times harder just to be seen or taken seriously. There were times I was told I wasn’t good enough or that I wasn’t doing enough, even while juggling multiple roles, projects, and responsibilities. Read more>>

Seeking deeper answers, I pursued a PhD at Emory University, where I studied how the brain distinguishes between what is familiar and what is new. My research was deeply personal, inspired by my grandmother’s battle with advanced dementia. Even though she didn’t recognize her own son, she immediately recognized me after six years apart. This moment sparked a critical question: Was her brain mistakenly identifying a familiar face as novel? After six years of rigorous research, I uncovered a previously unknown mechanism by which the brain encodes meaningful new memories. This work was recently accepted for publication in Nature, one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world. Read more>>

I met in highschool with his clothing brand and that experience exposed me to the underground fashion and music scene in ATL. Growing up, I often felt like an outcast, never quite fitting in. Little did I know, there was an entire community out there where I truly belonged. I kept my head down and worked really hard to earn a scholarship so I could attend college. It wasn’t until around when the covid lockdowns occurred that I entertained drawing again, then painting, and the itch slowly crept its way into me. She taught me resilience, hustle, and overcoming adverstiy. My mother challenged me in ways she didn’t realize, and I am blessed that when I became a mom, she achieved sobriety and was able to spend the first years of my Entrepreneural journey as my biggest advocate and support system. Although she has passed, I am working diligently to complete a project to honor her. I have already purchased the land in my hometown and pray that I will soon break ground on a multiplex providing affordable housing to women who want to escape the projects and give their children a head start in life. My journey as a mental health advocate in faith-based communities began from personal experience. Growing up in a religious household, I witnessed firsthand how mental health challenges were often misunderstood or stigmatized within spiritual settings. This created a troubling gap between faith and mental wellness that I became determined to bridge. Read more>>

Oh absolutely not lol. Watching the city develop in real time was beautiful but also environmentally and financially damaging. Every place we moved into growing up, we were priced out of. My passion for this work is deeply rooted in my 14 years as an educator, working with children from early childhood through eighth grade. I’ve taught in a range of spaces, from inclusive classrooms to contained environments with children who have extra needs, and I’ve witnessed the profound impact that affirmation, representation, and connection can have on a child’s confidence and learning. Fantastic article/interview with the up and coming Yo-Pro Joseph Lucido…how inspiring to read about a young man’s dreams in articulate fashion with clear vision and strong work ethics. A suggestion…you all should check back in on individuals you feature in a 2 to 5 years period and see where they are personally and professionally. Individuals like myself who enjoy your publication would appreciate that type of continuity and thoroughness.
