It’s more important to understand someone than to judge them. We think the first step to understanding someone is asking them the fundamental questions about who they are and how they became the person they are today. Understanding and empathy are essential building blocks for a better, more compassionate world. We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to ask these questions each week through our interview series. Below you’ll find inspiring interviews from in and around Atlanta.

I completely turned things up for many years, I can recall working 16+ hour days from the house as a stylist. I began having so many clients, from all walks of life! In that time, I met a client who turned me to music and brought me into the studio. From that first studio session, I knew I wanted to take on music! Since 2020, I’ve released several singles along with a mixtape project and another project in the works for this year. I know that no matter what route life takes me in, I will be great and greatness is in store for me. Then came the biggest challenge – learning the business of things. While I’ve been practicing dermatology for years now, understanding how to run a business has been a completely new endeavor for me. Somehow I made it through 14 years of schooling after high school, but I never learned how to run a business! I’ve been spending many late evenings, after the kiddies are in bed, learning new skills and also growing in spirit. I”m understanding that not everything has to be perfect. Sometimes just appreciating the season of life is more than enough. Read more>>

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced while building my business has been learning how to balance working in my business versus working on it. As an entrepreneur, especially in the early stages, you wear all the hats—trainer, admin, creative director, customer service, strategist—and it can be easy to get caught up in the day-to-day without carving out space to zoom out and think long-term. That’s been a real growth edge for me: learning how to step back, delegate when possible, and create systems that allow me to lead with vision instead of just reacting to the next task. Read more>>

I think personally every good thing comes with its fair share of bad things. So for me, yes I’ve experienced the hate, the lack of confidence, the warfare of being a good person in a cruel gritty world, and so on. But bigger than all those struggles is what I stand for, and that is to always stay true to myself while spreading the love of Jesus and his salvation by any and all means. With God always having being first in my life, I’ve come to be a lot more resilient to the shame this world has to offer. Not exempt, just gracefully resilient, all glory be to him! Read more>>

One of the biggest challenges has been navigating the world of marketing and brand visibility. Creating a beautiful product is one thing, but ensuring it reaches the right audience is another. Balancing business growth while being a present mom has also been a challenge, but it’s a journey I wouldn’t trade for anything. Read more>>

The word ‘rhapsody’, in musical terms, is a free instrumental composition in one extended movement, typically one that is emotional or exuberant in character. The word ‘ebony’ refers to the color black. Rhapsody in Ebony is the name of the Atlanta-based, classical music ensemble I launched. It is comprised of critically acclaimed, world-class musicians who are of the African diaspora. Rhapsody in Ebony puts a face to the under-represented black, classical performing artist by being not only visible, but stellar in our field. Read more>>

Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not! LOL! I have definitely hit some bumps, ditches, turns, and curves. But comes along with being a small business owner. I have rebranded my company several times because I still was not clear on the direction, I wanted to go in. From finding proper spa software, long lasting equipment, to having a better website (which is still a challenge right now) and more. I just take one day at a time and address one thing at a time. But the environments I worked in didn’t always support that approach. I often felt like I had to choose between driving results and being human-centered…until I joined Calendly as their Head of Quality. That’s where everything shifted. Growing up, though, I never thought I’d follow this path. I didn’t want to be “that kid” who just went into the same career as their parent because it seemed easy. Normally, a case like his would have resolved with the kind of conservative treatment he offers his clients, however, after months of chiropractic, physical therapy, and other conservative treatments, he was not improving, but instead gradually worsening. Due to the declining nature of his condition, he opted for surgery, but still to no avail. It wasn’t until 4 years later that he was finally diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s disease. He has had to pivot, and modify the manner in which he adjusts his clients, but he is determined to slow the progression, and help inspire and encourage others who may be facing similar challenges. “Keeping my story to myself doesn’t help anyone”, he says. “I will continue to practice chiropractic and give everything I have to my clients, until I’m no longer able to do so.” Read more>>

I can’t say it’s been a smooth road up and till now but I can’t say I was down bad. Being a creative comes with ups and downs, I didn’t go to college, I banked on being good enough at art that I wouldn’t have to go to college and somewhat i was right, Though there is times where the business and eyes that are on me slow down and I think “am I in the wrong field? am I doing the right type of work? is my niche not as cool as I thought?” These are thoughts we all have as creatives so I try not to let it destroy my process. At that moment I knew for sure giving back was my personal calling. I asked my Mom to help me with my new endeavor, which she quickly agreed. I was a real estate investor and public speaker before the Lord called me into the ministry. I went through a wilderness season for eight months, and it was during that time that I grew closer to God and earnestly desired a deeper relationship with Him. Out of that desire came a passion for serving Him and preaching the Gospel. The eight months of wilderness was challenging for me because I had never been consecrated and pruned like that before. I’m happy I allowed God to do the work in me during that season because the outcome has been a complete blessing to me, my family, and those that we serve through Kingdom Wealth Ministries. The transition into acting wasn’t easy. It meant starting over in some ways. I had to train, to be seen differently, to prove I could carry a scene, not just leap off rooftops. I embraced character work, found depth in scenes, and started being recognized not just for what I could do physically, but for what I could bring emotionally. Read more>>

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tn in particular living back & forth between East and South Memphis. The first song I can remember hearing was when I was about 5, it was Aaliyah ‘Rock the Boat’.
